Arranging Content

Menus and Submenus

Website content is sub divided into distinct 'pages' (which usually correspond to the items in the Menu shown at the top of the page) to help the visitor find what they want and also to reduce the amount of content that appears on the screen at the same time.  Screens are not as easy to read as paper-based documents.

Having a Submenu under a Main Menu item (i.e. item at the top level) is one way to group related but distinct sets of content where the whole content would be too much for a single page. Where there is a Main Menu/Submenu structure, the user accesses the submenu items by hovering their cursor over the Main Menu item and selecting a Submenu item.

On this page, this Main Menu item 'Arranging Content' has a submenu - the submenu items are repeated below as links.
